Matchday 11
Tanzanian Premier League
31 October – 1 November
While teams such as Simba and Young Africans set the tone in the Tanzania Premier League, Azam and JKT Tanzania head into this weekend’s action as the chasing pack eager to solidify a place in the CAF football position.
Azam occupies third on the table following their matchday eight assignments and will play Mbeya City on Wednesday evening. Following a 2-0 away win over Coastal Union on 9 October, Azam found themselves level on points with fourth-placed JKT Tanzania who stumbled in a 0-0 draw with Dodoma Jiji during matchday 10.
The two sides will now meet at the Isamuhyo Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Saturday for a place in the CAF Confederations Cup qualifying spot.
Elsewhere, Polisi Tanzania is scheduled to face Namungo on 29 November, but Polisi will also take on Geita Gold at the Ushirika Stadium in Moshi on Sunday. Prior to the game against Namungo, Polisi recorded back-to-back draws against Kagera Sugar and Pamba, leaving them on 12 points for the campaign.
Relegation dwellers Kagera Sugar are scheduled to face Coastal Union before their weekend fixture alongside second-placed Young Africans at the KMC Stadium on Sunday.
Yanga returned to winning ways in their most recent league fixture after a much-needed 2-1 victory against Mashujaa on 27 October, ending their two-match winless streak that included a 2-1 loss against log leaders Young Africans.
Then, in a game beyond the weekend’s fixture list, first-placed Simba will hope to build on their early momentum when they go toe-to-toe with Namungo on Monday, while they will also be in action against Fountain Gate on Thursday.
