Tanzanian Premier League - Matchday 7

2024/25 Tanzanian Premier League

Matchday 7

3-4 October 2024

Simba and Young Africans will look to maintain their 100 per cent records in the Tanzanian Premier League before the next international break kicks in after matchday 7.

Simba have yet to concede a single goal this season as they prepare for the visit of Coastal Union to the MC Stadium on Friday, October 4.

The Msimbazi Reds edged Dodoma Jiji 1-0 on September 29 to make it four wins from four in the new campaign and close within one point of league leaders Singida Black Stars in third place.

Fadlu Davids' side have a game in hand on Black Stars due to their CAF commitments in September, having qualified for the group stages of the Confederation Cup.

Coastal Union picked up their first win of the season as they saw off Pamba Jiji 2-0 on September 28 to move up to 13th position, being kept out of the relegation zone on goal difference.

Young Africans will be targeting their fourth successive win when they welcome Pamba Jiji to the Azam Complex Stadium on Thursday, October 3.

Yanga ran out narrow 1-0 victors over Kinondoni MC on September 29 to climb up to fourth spot, three points behind arch-rivals Simba with a game in hand.

The defending champions had also beaten strugglers KenGold by the same scoreline four days earlier, but head coach Miguel Gamondi brushed off concerns about the low-scoring encounters, insisting he is happy with the performances.

"Scoring one goal is enough for a team that has played four games in 12 days. People seem to think that if Young Africans don't score more than one goal, it's a bad result," Gamondi said.

"But look at the other teams in the league - how many are scoring three or four goals regularly? Of course, I want to win 3-0, and maybe today we deserved that, but KMC's goalkeeper was fantastic, and their defenders were excellent.

"Give credit to them. It's not a problem for me, and I'm very happy with the result."

Pamba Jiji (14th) remain winless since being promoted, although head coach Goran Kopunovic is hoping to surprise Young Africans after seeing his team draw four of their opening six matches.

"This game is a chance for us to overcome our recent struggles and return to winning form," Kopunovic said. "While Young Africans are a formidable opponent, we need to secure a positive result to improve our overall performance."

Meanwhile, Singida Black Stars will target a return to winning ways when they head to the Lake Tanganyika Stadium for a clash with Mashujaa.

Patrick Aussems' side dropped points for the first time in a 1-1 draw with JKT Tanzania on September 29, but they still occupy top spot on goal difference ahead of Singida Fountain Gate, who have played two games more.

Mashujaa have yet to taste defeat this term after a 0-0 draw with Azam last time out lifted them up to sixth place, level on nine points with Yanga.

In other matches taking place around the country, Kinondoni MC (12th) host Kagera Sugar (15th) at the KMC Stadium, Namungo (10th) lock horns with Azam (5th) at the Majaliwa Stadium and rock-bottom KenGold meet Coastal Union (13th) at the Sokoine Stadium.
