2024/25 Tanzanian Premier League
Matchday 29
Wednesday, 18 June 2025
There are still two separate battles going on in the
Tanzanian Premier League as the season heads into its penultimate round on Wednesday, June 18.
Young Africans and Simba are fighting for the title, while nine clubs are still technically in danger of having to navigate the relegation playoffs.
With Yanga having boycotted the Dar es Salaam derby against the Reds of Msimbazi on June 15, they remain separated by one point in first and second place respectively.
Young Africans are unbeaten in their last 17 matches as they travel to the Sokoine Stadium for a clash with Tanzania Prisons.
Miloud Hamdi's side made it nine wins on the spin when they beat Namungo 3-0 on May 13, with Prisons having boosted their survival hopes courtesy of a 2-1 victory over Coastal Union on May 12 to go level with Pamba Jiji (12th) on 20 points in 13th position.
Simba will look to ramp up the pressure on their title rivals when they face already-relegated KenGold at the Ali Hassan Mwinyi Stadium.
Fadlu Davids' side are undefeated in their last 21 outings after a 1-0 success against Singida Black Stars on May 28 took them within a point of their arch-rivals at the top of the table.
KenGold (16th) have won just three games all season and a 2-0 reverse against Pamba Jiji on May 13 extended their losing streak to five matches.
Davids revealed that his injuries woes have eased up since the Federation Cup semi-final defeat to Black Stars, with Moussa Camara, Valentin Nouma, Che Malone and Mzamiru Yassin all available once more.
"Following our Federation Cup semi-final against Singida Black Stars, we immediately resumed training. It was in that match that Camara and Nouma sustained their injuries, but they are now fully recovered. Che Malone is no longer on restricted minutes, and Yassin is also fully fit," he said.
Meanwhile, Fountain Gate have an opportunity to climb out of the relegation playoff spots when they take on Coastal Union at the Mkwakwani Stadium.
Fountain Gate find themselves down in 14th place on 29 points after a 3-1 loss to JKT Tanzania on May 13 extended their winless run to five games. Coastal Union are just two points better off in 10th position following a 2-1 defeat to Prisons on May 12 which halted a two-game winning streak.
JKT Tanzania will attempt to secure their top-flight status when they lock horns with Pamba Jiji at the CCM Kirumba Stadium.
JKT moved up to sixth in the standing on 35 points after they arrested a five-game winless sequence with a 3-1 triumph over Fountain Gate on May 13. Pamba breathed new life into their survival bid with a 2-0 win against KenGold on May 13 to go ahead of Prisons on goal difference in 12th spot.
Elsewhere, Dodoma Jiji (7th on 34 points) host Singida Black Stars at the Jamhuri Stadium, Mashujaa (8th on 33 points) entertain Kinondoni MC (9th on 33 points) at the Lake Tanganyika Stadium, Namungo (11th on 31 points) welcome Kagera Sugar to the Majaliwa Stadium and Azam are set to do battle with Tabora United at the Azam Complex Stadium.
