Azam FC and Simba SC will close the Tanzanian Premier League action before the impending international window with a showdown at the Chamazi Stadium on the early evening of Wednesday 16 September. Kick-off is at 18:00.
Form
Azam come into the clash on the back of a 2-0 home win over Namungo on 7 September, with goals from Hassan Mubiru and Gibril Sillah. The result saw Wana Lambalamba continue their excellent form this season, as they have taken 14 points from a possible 18 and remain unbeaten.
Simba, meanwhile, have taken a full haul of 15 points from their five matches, with their last league outing a 2-0 win over Geita Gold in late August.
Wekundu wa Msimbazi have been out of domestic action the past two weekends due to their participation in the qualifying rounds of the CAF Champions League, where they claimed an emphatic 7-1 aggregate win over Mighty Wanderers of Malawi. Anicet Oura, Clatous Chama, Libasse Gueye, Keletso Makgalwa and Morice Abraham all got their names on the score sheet across the two-legged tie.

Simba (15 points) and Azam (14) are placed second and third on the log respectively, with the pole position held by Young Africans, who have also won all five league outings (and have a better goal difference, hence their place at the very summit). In addition, Yanga could go three points clear if they win their scheduled match at home to Geita Gold on Tuesday.

“It’s not often that you see results like this, but the way we started and scored three goals early was a very good beginning. At halftime, I told the players not to reduce the intensity. I felt this was a game where we could score five or six goals. We controlled the game through good possession of the ball. That made the opponents tired and left spaces for us to exploit, and we used those opportunities well. We can now enjoy the moment, but for this block we have one big game on Wednesday [against Azam].”
