2024/25 Tanzanian Premier League
Matchday 6
27-29 September 2024
All 16 teams feature in the Tanzanian Premier League for the first time in the season as Young Africans and Simba look to make up ground on the early frontrunners.
Young Africans will turn their attention to the clash with Kinondoni MC at the Azam Complex Stadium on Sunday after qualifying for the CAF Champions League group stages.
Yanga have only played one league game thus far, beating Kagera Sugar 2-0 on August 28 to place them nine points off table-topping Singida Black Stars.
The Kino Boys (8th) have made an indifferent start to the season and a 0-0 draw with JKT Tanzania on September 22 extended their winless run to two games after they suffered 4-0 defeat to Azam three days earlier.
Simba also kept their continental campaign going after progressing to the CAF Confederation Cup group stages and they can now shift focus to domestic matters again with a trip to Dodoma Jiji on Sunday.
The Msimbazi Reds initially led the way following back-to-back wins over Tabora United (3-0) and Singida Fountain Gate (4-0), but five clubs have since overtaken them and they trail the league leaders by six points.
Dodoma Jiji are level with Fadlu Davids' side on six points, although they have played three games more and drew 0-0 with Tanzania Prisons most recently to go four matches unbeaten.
Singida Black Stars are ready to unleash new signing Victorien Adebayor against JKT Tanzania at the Liti Stadium on Sunday.
The Niger international has yet to feature for Patrick Aussems' side due to family matters which delayed his integration into the squad, but he's finally raring to go as they look to maintain their 100 per cent record in 2024-25.
Black Stars edged Pamba Jiji 1-0 on September 17 to make it 11 goals from five games as they opened up a two-point gap to Singida Fountain Gate.
"Adebayor needed more time because he joined the team late due to family issues. He had to settle in Singida first, and we're grateful for his development. He's now ready to play for the team," Aussems said.
JKT Tanzania have played out to three successive goalless draws against Azam, Kagera Sugar and KMC to sit 13th in the standings.
Singida Fountain Gate will be hoping to stay in touch with the league leaders when they welcome Kagera Sugar to the Kwaraa Stadium on Friday.
Fountain Gate ran out 3-1 victors over Tabora United on September 20 to stretch their unbeaten run to four matches since suffering a 4-0 defeat to Simba on the opening weekend.
Kagera Sugar registered their first win of the season as they triumphed 2-0 against rock-bottom KenGold on September 20 to move up to 11th position.
Elsewhere around the country, KenGold (16th) and Tabora United (5th) go head-to-head at the Sokoine Stadium, Coastal Union (15th) face Pamba Jiji (10th) at the KMC Stadium, Namungo (14th) take on Tanzania Prisons (9th) at the Majaliwa Stadium and Mashujaa (4th) lock horns with Azam (3rd) at the Lake Tanganyika Stadium.
