Simba vs Young Africans

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

Kick-off is at 18:00
As arguably the biggest fixture in the Tanzania Premier League this weekend, a top of the table clash will see Simba take on Young Africans on Saturday as both sides put their unblemished record on the line.
Young Africans head into the Kariakoo Derby sitting in first position on the table after taking home 18 points in a 100% win rate after six matches played in the league with Manqoba Mngqithi leading his impressively.
Sitting in second position, Simba have likewise grabbed six from six this season with Young Africans boasting a superior goal difference owing to the most goals scored in the league while they conceded just twice a piece.
‘Yanga’, as Young Africans are fondly known, took home a 1-0 win against Geita Gold on 16 September in their most recent tie as they headed into the FIFA International break beaming with confidence.
Simba, on the other hand, noted a 2-0 win against Azam on away soil in their final league assignment before the lengthy international recess.
Despite having no local football assignments, Simba recently completed a 10-day training camp in South Africa to maintain their player’s fitness levels ahead of the derby. Steve Barker’s side thus took on Polokwane City and Sekhukhune United between 2 and 3 October as part of their preparations behind the scenes.

Speaking ahead of the tie, Simba SC manager Patrick Rweyemamu gave insights into the upcoming derby and noted that there are no friendships between the two sides.
Highlighting the gravity of the occasion, Rweyemamu ultimately labelled the game as a ‘do-or-die’ occasion in the Tanzanian Premier League.
"In football, there is no underdog, but we should also not go into the match thinking about history," Rweyemamu said.
"It is true that in about three or four matches we have not done as well as Yanga, but if you remember, last season we picked up points in the league and we also managed to win.
"Simba and Yanga have no friendship. At the end of the day, it is a 'do or die' match."
