Tanzanian Premier League - Matchday 8

2024/25 Tanzanian Premier League
Matchday 8

18-21 October 2024

The highly-anticipated Dar-es-Salaam derby between Simba and Young Africans headlines the matchday 8 fixtures in the Tanzanian Premier League.

Simba host defending champions Young Africans at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium on Saturday, October 19 seeking a first win in three meetings with their arch-rivals.

The Msimbazi Reds lost both league encounters against Yanga last season and they are targeting a return to winning ways after being held to a 2-2 draw by Coastal Union on October 4.

Fadlu Davids' side trail table-topping Singida Black Stars by three points in second place with a game in hand and the South African tactician is determined to claim the derby spoils this weekend.

"We are going to approach this game as if it is the last match of our lives," Davids said, as he looks to avenge the 1-0 defeat to Yanga in the Community Shield semi-finals two months ago.

Young Africans made it four wins from four in 2024-25 after dispatching Pamba Jiji 4-0 on October 3 to close within four points of the summit in fourth position with two games in hand.

Depending on the outcome of that match, Singida Black Stars could find themselves knocked off top spot when they welcome Namungo to the Liti Stadium on Sunday, October 20.

Patrick Aussems' side maintained their three-point lead with a 1-0 win over Mashujaa on October 4 which extended their unbeaten run to five matches.

Namungo are perched perilously close to the relegation zone after a 1-0 loss to Azam on October 3 left them just one point above the bottom four in 12th spot.

Meanwhile, Singida Fountain Gate will be looking to get back on the winning trail when Kinondoni MC visit the Kwaraa Stadium on Sunday.

Mohamed Muya scooped the Coach of the Month award for September after guiding his team to three wins and a draw last month, but they started October with a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Prisons.

Muya is determined to bounce back against KMC in a bid to stay in touch with the frontrunners following a second loss which saw Fountain gate drop to third place.

"I'm thrilled with the team's collective effort, especially the coaching staff, who have been supportive of my ideas. Our early-season success is a testament to our growth and positive direction," he said.

"We need to bounce back against KMC. They have a talented squad and a tactically astute coach. We must be cautious and well prepared."

KMC arrested a three-game winless run as they edged Kagera Sugar 1-0 on October 3 to climb up to eighth in the standings, eight points adrift of the league leaders.

Elsewhere, Pamba Jiji will go in search of their first win of the campaign when they lock horns with fellow strugglers Kagera Sugar at the CCM Kirumba Stadium on Monday, October 21.

Goran Kopunovic's side have only collected four points from their opening seven fixtures and are rooted to the foot of the table on goal difference behind KenGold (15th) and Kagera Sugar (14th).

The Bukoba outfit will be hoping to snap a two-game losing streak in an attempt to put some distance between themselves and the drop zone.
