2024/25 Tanzanian Premier League
Matchday 11
1-4 November 2024
Young Africans could enter the weekend's fixtures at the top of the table for the first time this season when they face Azam at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium on Saturday, November 2.
Yanga had to play catch-up after featuring in the CAF Champions League qualifying rounds and a 1-0 win over Coastal Union on October 26 maintained their perfect start to the season.
Miguel Gamondi's side trail league leaders Singida Black Stars by one point in second place ahead of their big clash on October 30, which could see the lead exchange hands.
The Bakers made it three wins on the spin as they demolished KenGold 4-1 on October 25 to stay within four points of the summit in fourth spot.
Gamondi urged the authorities to give more attention to playing conditions after admitting his team found the pitch in Arusha challenging to play on.
"Three points are very important, especially with this away win in a challenging stadium. It was hard to play our usual football on this pitch," he said.
"Coastal Union faced similar challenges, which impacted both teams. This is an area that needs attention for the improvement of Tanzanian football."
Simba will look to keep the pressure on the frontrunners when they take on Mashujaa at the Lake Tanganyika Stadium on Friday, November 1.
The Msimbazi Reds (3rd) have gotten their title challenge back on track after losing to Young Africans on October 19, with successive wins against Prisons (1-0) and Namungo (3-0) taking them within three points of the league leaders.
Mashujaa claimed a hard-fought 2-2 draw with Singida Fountain Gate on October 28 to remain ahead of Dodoma Jiji on goal difference in sixth position, having beaten KenGold 3-0 seven days prior.
Simba head coach Fadlu Davids expressed his frustration with the congested fixture schedule which he claims favours their arch-rivals.
"You know, Young Africans had 20 days to play their six games, while we only have 18 days. They get extra two days, but we will go through. It's about getting the basics right in such games," Davids said.
Meanwhile, Pamba Jiji will go in search of their first win in 2024-25 when they lock horns with Singida Fountain Gate at the Kwaraa Stadium on Saturday, November 2.
Pamba Jiji recently appointed Fred Felix Kataraiya as their new head coach after Goran Kopunovic was sacked following a poor run of results which left the team languishing in the relegation zone.
Kataraiya has picked up just one point from his opening three matches at the helm and a 1-0 reverse to Namungo on October 28 saw them remain above basement dwellers KenGold on goal difference in 15th place.
Fountain Gate had been the early challengers to local rivals Black Stars, but the stalemate with Mashujaa on October 28 was their second game without a win and pushed them down to fifth in the standings, one point behind Azam.
Elsewhere, Coastal Union will be looking to build on only their third win of the campaign when they meet Singida Black Stars at the Liti Stadium on Saturday.
Mangushi appear to have turned the corner after a difficult start, picking up 10 points from their last five games and running 1-0 narrow 1-0 victors over Kagera Sugar most recently.
Coastal Union have climbed up to 10th place, level with Kinondoni MC (11th) and Tabora United (12th) on 11 points, but ahead of them on goal difference.
Patrick Aussems' side maintained their unbeaten start in the league with a 2-0 triumph over neighbours Fountain Gate on October 25, but they could finally be knocked off the summit by Young Africans on October 30.
