Young Africans will look to keep up their chase for a league and cup ‘double’ when they face JKT Mgambo in the semifinals of the Tanzanian Federation Cup, set for the Mkwakwani Stadium in Tanga on the afternoon of Saturday 17 May. Kick-off is at 16:00
Yanga, who top the Tanzanian Premier League and are looking to seal a fourth straight championship, will target a place in the final when they battle JKT – with Simba SC and Singida Black Stars facing off in the other semifinal.
Young Africans earned their place in the final four by defeating Songea United 2-0 and Stand United 8-1 in the last 16 and quarterfinals respectively.
For this clash, they will hope to have Khalid Aucho, Pacome Zouzoua, and Kennedy Musonda back from injury.
“We have gained more strength seeing the players back in training,” said coach Miloud Hamdi. “Their presence is like the return of weapons that were missing in previous matches. I am happy to have a strong squad that gives me the strength to make the rotation as I want depending on the opponents that come.”
JKT Mgambo defeated Mbeya Kwanza 3-0 and Pamba 3-1 in the early rounds, establishing themselves as one of the ‘dark horses’ to win the Federation Cup.
They will rely on highly-rated goalkeeper Yakoub Suleiman, who has enhanced his reputation this season and could be a decisive figure if this cup tie goes as far as penalties.
In head-to-head stats, Young Africans and JKT have met in 10 previous matches, all in the league, dating back as far as 2018. Yanga are unbeaten in the sequence, with seven wins and three draws.
The teams’ last met in a league match in February 2025, playing out a goalless stalemate in a home match for JKT.
