Young Africans will look to build their lead at the top of the Tanzanian Premier League standings when they face Singida Black Stars at the Airtel Stadium in Mtipa on the afternoon of Thursday, 5 March, 2026. Kick-off is at 3pm.
Young Africans hold a one-point lead at the top of the log over second-placed JKT Tanzania, though Yanga have played six full matches less than their nearest chasers. A more realistic comparison is to third-placed Simba SC (Yanga’s arch rivals), who are five points adrift having played the same number of fixtures as the leaders.
Young Africans come into the match on a four-game unbeaten streak across all competitions; their most recent outing was a 0-0 draw against Simba in the Kariakoo derby this past weekend. Coach Pedro Goncalves has called on his team to maintain their pace and intensity in search of a fifth successive TPL title.
“We anticipate a very big marathon, matches after matches, so we should be prepared for that and try to win every game as we protect our lead,” said the Yanga tactician.
Black Stars, meanwhile, are placed ninth on the log – 10 points off the pace set by Yanga, having played the same number of matches. They are unbeaten in five outings across all competitions and claimed a 1-0 home win over Coastal Union on Monday, thanks to a second-half goal from Joseph Guede.
In head-to-head terms, Young Africans and Black Stars have met in eight league matches dating back to December 2020, with Yanga claiming six wins compared to two for the Singida team.
The clubs last met in the TPL in February 2025, when Young Africans claimed a 2-1 home win thanks to goals from Cement Mzize and Prince Dube.
The Stars v Yanga match is not the only Premier League clash on the card for Thursday; Tanzania Prisons is hosting Azam FC at the same time in Mbeya.
