2024/25 Tanzanian Premier League
Matchday 23
Young Africans v Simba
Azam Complex Stadium
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
Sunday, 15 June 2025
Kick-off is at 17h00
Dar es Salaam will come to a standstill on Sunday, June 15 when Young Africans and Simba battle it out for top spot in the
Tanzanian Premier League at the Azam Complex Stadium.
This match could very well decide the title as Yanga are just one point clear of their arch-rivals at the summit with three fixtures left to play in the 2024-25 season.
Miloud Hamdi's side maintained their slender lead over the Reds of Msimbazi after beating Namungo 3-0 on May 13 to make it nine wins in a row.
Young Africans are now unbeaten in their last 17 games since suffering back-to-back defeats against Tabora United (3-1) and Azam (1-0) back in November.
Simba kept their title hopes alive with a narrow 1-0 victory over Singida Black Stars on May 28 to close right up on their city neighbours.
Fadlu Davids' side had to play catch-up in the league after reaching the CAF Confederation Cup final last month, but they've kept pace with Yanga are winning their last seven matches.
In fact, the Reds of Msimbazi have out-performed the defending champions in the league since their last meeting on October 19, going unbeaten in their last 21 outings since that 1-0 loss.
However, Young Africans have threatened to boycott the derby unless the Tanzania Premier League Board (TPLB) meets their demands which stem from grievances relating to the original fixture being postponed just hours before kick-off.
"The leadership of Young Africans SC would like to inform the public that on June 7, 2025, we received an official invitation from the Tanzania Premier League Board to attend a special meeting concerning match number 184 of the NBC Premier League: Yanga SC vs Simba SC," club vice president Arafat Haji said.
"Our leadership honored the invitation and participated in the meeting held on Monday, June 9, 2025, at the TPLB offices at NSSF Mafao House, Dar es Salaam, from 10:00 a.m.
"After hours of deliberation, our club officials submitted our final position: Yanga will not participate in match number 184, scheduled for June 15, 2025, until the demands we submitted in writing to the League Board are fulfilled.
"We wish the League Board and the Tanzania Football Federation success in addressing our concerns, which are vital to the future development of football in Tanzania."
