Despite boasting one of the most talented African sides at the 2026 World Cup, Senegal are still looking for their first win at the showpiece after suffering a 3-2 defeat against Norway in Group I on Tuesday.

The Vikings opened the scoring in the 43rd minute owing to a strike by Marcus Pedersen, who was subbed on in the 13th minute after Julian Ryerson suffered an injury.

After putting pressure on the Senegal backline, particularly on players such as Kalidou Koulibaly and goalkeeper Édouard Mendy, Pedersen fired home with a strong right-footed shot in the area.

The rest of Norway’s goals belonged to Erling Haaland, who capped off a fast counter-attack to make it 2-0 in the 48th minute after being found by Martin Odergaard en-route to goal.

The Manchester City striker completed his brace moments before the hour-mark, powering his way through the Senegal backline before rifling the ball home from close range.

As for Senegal, Ismaïla Sarr netted a brace for his nation as the Lions of Teranga put up a valiant effort in large parts of the second-half. The game was particularly stressful for Norway at the end, given Sarr’s effort in the 93rd minute, however the African nation failed to complete the comeback.
