Tanzanian Premier League - Young Africans vs Simba Showdown

2025/26 Tanzanian Premier League

Matchday 26

12-14 June 2026

The title race remains tightly contested as the Tanzanian Premier League enters its final five rounds with Young Africans and Simba separated by just two points.

Young Africans will be looking to hold onto top spot when they make the trip to Mashujaa on Saturday, June 13.

Yanga have won three games on the spin since Dodoma Jiji halted their unbeaten start to the season with a shock 3-2 win on May 13. A 3-1 success against Namungo on May 25 kept their noses in front in the dash to the finish line with Simba.

Mashujaa are in danger of getting sucked into the relegation battle after a 1-0 loss to Coastal Union on May 24 extended their winless run to five matches and left them just two points clear of the bottom four in 11th position.

Simba will be determined to keep the pressure on their title rivals when they play host to Pamba Jiji on Sunday, June 14.

The Reds of Msimbazi have embarked on an impressive 20-game unbeaten sequence since suffering their solitary defeat of the campaign at the hands of Azam (2-0) on December 7, with a 1-0 victory over Dodoma Jiji on May 24 keeping them within touching distance of the league leaders.

However, Steve Barker's side were dealt a blow this week with the news that goalkeeper Yakoub Suleiman is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after undergoing knee surgery.

"Yakoub will not be available for the remainder of this season, and he is likely to miss at least the first half of next season," Simba spokesperson Ahmed Ally said.

"His return will depend on how well he progresses through his rehabilitation programme and the recommendations of the medical team."

Pamba (7th) are looking to bounce back from a 3-2 reverse against Tanzania Prisons on May 26 which was their third defeat in five outings.

Azam travel to Fountain Gate on Friday, June 12 in the hope of keeping their CAF Champions League challenge alive.

The Bakers beat rock-bottom Kinondoni MC 3-0 on May 25 to make it four wins on the spin and maintain the six-point gap to Simba in third place. Fountain Gate pulled away from the danger zone with a 2-1 success against TRA United on May 24 to close within four points of the top half of the table in ninth spot.

Singida Black Stars will be aiming to cement fourth place in the league when they make the journey to JKT Tanzania on Saturday, June 13.

Muhibu Kanu's side gave the perfect response to the 3-0 loss against Yanga by running out convincing 4-1 victors over Mbeya City on May 26 to go three points clear of JKT, who could only manage a 2-2 draw with Mtibwa Sugar on May 24, making it three games without a win.

"Our target remains clear finish in the top positions," Kanu said. "We must keep working together as a team, stay focused, and believe that at the end of the season we will achieve something meaningful for the club and our supporters."

Elsewhere, Kinondoni MC (16th) host TRA United (6th), Tanzania Prisons (15th) take on Dodoma Jiji (8th), Coastal Union (10th) lock horns with Namungo (13th) and Mbeya City (14th) face Mtibwa Sugar (12th).
