2024/25 Tanzanian Premier League
Matchday 14
11-13 December 2024
With Simba and Young Africans preparing for important continental ties over the weekend, Azam have a chance to extend their lead at the Tanzanian Premier League summit.
Azam travel to the Ali Hassan Mwinyi Stadium for a clash with Tabora United on Friday, December 13 seeking their seventh consecutive victory in the league.
Rachid Taoussi's side beat Dodoma Jiji 3-1 on December 1 to go unbeaten in their last eight matches since losing 2-0 to Simba on September 26.
The league leaders have opened up a two-point gap to the Msimbazi Reds, who have two games in hand. Tabora United have closed within three points of early-season frontrunners Singida Black Stars in fifth spot after a 2-0 win over Kinondoni MC on November 29 extended their unbeaten run to five games.
Azam attacking midfielder Feisal Salum revealed the club's ambition to play in the CAF Champions League once more and stated that confidence in the squad is sky high at the moment.
"The consecutive victories have built our confidence and fostered a strong team spirit. Our goal is to ensure we return to the CAF Champions League next season," Salum said.
"We are hungry for success. With the quality of players we have, winning all the titles we compete for is a realistic goal."
Singida Black Stars will look to get their title challenge back on track when they host Dodoma Jiji at the Liti Stadium on Friday, December 13.
Patrick Aussems' side led the charge in the opening three months of the season, picking up 22 points out of a possible 24, but they've faltered in recent weeks after a 2-0 loss to Young Africans ended their unbeaten record and a 2-1 reverse to Azam on November 28 left them winless in their last four outings.
Dodoma Jiji have dropped down to 10th position after suffering their second defeat in three matches at the hands of Azam on December 1.
Meanwhile, an important three points will be up for grabs when Kagera Sugar welcome fellow strugglers Namungo to the Kaitaba Stadium on Wednesday, December 11.
Both teams are languishing at the wrong end of the table, with Kagera (14th) one point clear of the relegation zone following a 0-0 draw against Prisons on December 5 which left them winless in their last three games. Namungo (15th) find themselves three points above rock-bottom KenGold after suffering three defeats on the spin.
Pamba Jiji will be hoping to build on their second win of the season when they lock horns with JKT Tanzania at the Isamuhyo Stadium on Wednesday, December 11.
A 1-0 triumph over basement dwellers KenGold on December 1 lifted Pamba Jiji up to 13th place, level on 11 points with Prison (12th) but with an inferior goal difference. JKT Tanzania (8th) put some more distance between themselves and the danger zone with a 1-0 success against Singida Fountain Gate on November 29 - their second successive win.
Elsewhere, Kinondoni MC (11th) take on Mashujaa (6th) at the Azam Complex Stadium on Thursday, December 12, while Singida Fountain Gate (7th) entertain Coastal Union (9th) at the CCM Kirumba Stadium on Friday, December 13.
